Using ICT to enhance learning and teaching in the classroom
At present digital technology is in common use in diverse contexts: educational contexts such as primary and secondary schools, universities, libraries, etc., work and everyday life contexts – at home, on public transport, in restaurants. ICT in a contemporary classroom is more than a source of information. Even though technology is often considered as a barrier for interpersonal relationships, skilled teachers know how to use technology in order to increase peer collaboration (classroom and international), learning motivation and creative thinking. The goal for schools should be to guarantee learning that is more in-depth, more comprehensive and more meaningful and to prepare students to be capable of creating knowledge: educating for what is as yet unknown, preparing students so that they can tackle challenges they do not yet have to face and providing the maximum of resources and tools so that when they encounter them, they can create, invent and redesign strategies and resources to be able to provide solutions. In short, promoting long-life learning in diverse contexts and stages with the aid of ICT.
However, teachers are often reluctant towards technology, because they believe it does not fit into their programme, they already juggling to much and they do not have time to learn and use it. This course aims to give teachers the necessary self-confidence to integrate ICT in their regular teaching programme. Throughout the course participants will experience and learn ways how they can use ICT tools for their own pedagogical activities.
